Reasons for Breeding Gilts
OFFICIAL PLACINGS
Official: Jeremy Jones
Placing: 2134
Cuts: 3-3-6
The alignment of the Yorkshire gilts is 2134. You can certainly appreciate the top trio of females for their quality and value in relation to the scenario. With that said, the 99 litter gilt surfaces because of her added width & center body. She not only holds the class advantage in power but couples this with a balanced, moderate look and appears more than adequate in her angles. This combination of traits gives her the potential edge in generating elite purebred showring prospects.
1 is another good designed, functional kind of female. She actually reads a bit more rugged due to her extra bone and foot. Yet she tapers through her lower skeleton & is flatter hipped.
The middle pair is an intriguing set of gilts that definately differ in type. Between the duo, 1 is extra heavy duty & offers more brood sow potential. She appears to be pliable in her skeleton while also being squarer fronted & leveler rumped. There's no doubt she too is more correct in the size & shape to her vulva.
Without question, 3 projects more spread & dimension over her top and is wider from behind. Unfortunately, she's also the fine featured, light structured gilt of the initial 3 in additon to being the roundest & steepest hipped of the drive.
However, in a final pair of frailer built gilts, 3 beats 4 in terms of sheer mass & substance. Her added top, hip & center certainly conveys visual breeding value. Simply put, she offers a bolder & more productive look.
The female showing signs of estrus, is set higher at the base of her tail and closer to ideal in teat size & spacing. But she's undeniably the lowest performing, narrowest gauged gilt that's the flattest & harshest ribbed.
